Biblical Lesson…

Sanballat, Tobiah and others attempted to create an atmosphere of fear, hopelessness and adversity around Nehemiah and his workers to halt their efforts in following God's plans. However, these enemies forgot who they were truly up against —GOD. God reveals the truth to His servants and ensures that His plans are accomplished (v. 15).

God, all-knowing and all-seeing, communicated with Nehemiah what was happening and set forth a plan to stop Sanballat and his co-conspirators. In verse 9, "But we prayed to our God, and because of them we set up a guard against them day and night." The Lord gave them strength to overcome the enemy plans despite feeling fear. Nehemiah said to his fellow workers in verse 14:“Do not be afraid of them; [confidently] remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and [with courage from Him] fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and for your homes.”

In the New Testament, these concepts are exemplified by the following:

  1. Jesus' lesson to the apostles John 14;

  2. Paul's declaration to the Philippians on how he lives his life (Philippians 4:11-13); and

  3. Peter's lesson on keeping in line with God's plans (1 Peter 4).

Today's Version…

Divisiveness, divisiveness is what is seen today.  What the modern-day Sanballats and Tobiahs see as a step-forward in their plans against God, they underestimate God and his remnant again. For the Lord Almighty is leading His people into His plans as Peter taught in 1 Peter 4, His will and plans will be implemented in His way.

What to do…

The choice is yours whether you will seek, receive and act upon God's instructions and blessings to accomplish His plan for His kingdom come. What can you do?

  1. Seek the Lord's purpose and guidance in your life through prayer and journaling in quiet time;

  2. Listen for the Lord's response to you as to what steps to take and evaluate such steps to Biblical instructions and see if it holds true to God's character; and

  3. Step out in faith and give God permission to redirect your course if it isn't the right way.
