To quickly summarize, we've studied the parables reference to the trampled ground of the path and the rocky soil over the last eight (8) weeks. As a refresher, please read the parable in its entirety from Luke 8:4-15 or Matthew 13:1-23. Again, if you read both, you'll get more out of it given the different perspectives of Matthew and Luke.

And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it…And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.

-Luke 8:7, 14 (ESV)

Now, let's focus on the sketch and the passage regarding soil where seed grows simultaneously with thorny brambles.

Consider the following:

  1. Are you or have you ever been this type of "thorny" soil? If so, do you remember the time? If not, step into the shoes of someone you know or imagine to be like this and ponder what makes this person "thorny soil".

  2. What do you consider to be the cares of life? Riches? Pleasures? Do these things choke the word of God for you or enhance it? How so? When do cares, riches and pleasures of life choke the seed?

  3. What is the "fruit" that is referenced in the parable? What does the maturity of this fruit look like?
